Shoebox Diarama
This month I read "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred D. Taylor. This story follows a little African American girl named Cassie and her family and friends. The time period is just shortly after slavery has been abolished, but there is still a lot of prejudice in the town where Cassie lives. One of her "friends" TJ is trying too hard to fit in with some older white kids, who still have a lot of prejudice in their hearts. TJ ends up doing some bad things and gets beat up by his new friends, and is in trouble with the law. It is up to Cassie and her family to come together to try and save their friend TJ from the prejudice that still runs deep, and help save TJ's life.
